The SeaMonkey name was adopted by the project leading group (dubbed "SeaMonkey Council") after considering a long list of community-proposed names - it was decided that the long-lived internal code name still suited the project best. It was no easy decision, but it has a certain appeal - the suite is already known by SeaMonkey within the developer community. The council is working on having this name trademarked with the help of the Mozilla Foundation.

While the Foundation doesn't consider the new SeaMonkey application to be an officially supported upgrade path for Mozilla suite users, it provides the newly founded project with assistance in the form of much-needed project infrastructure, and cooperates with SeaMonkey developers. Development of SeaMonkey produces many improvements which are contributed back to the Mozilla codebase, much of which is shared with products including Firefox and Thunderbird.

Some of you may remember that the previous version of the V-RAID driver caused some rather funky audio and video playback issues on some systems - mainly systems running Windows Vista. v5.40a was the culprit and it was also unfortunately included in the Hyperion Pro drivers. Well, v5.50b are now on VIA Arena and there should be no more problems. They will be included in a release of the Hyperion Pro driver shortly. Until then, use the latest Hyperion Pro drivers but then also install the latest V-RAID package.

This release of Catalyst™ introduces the Avivo Video Converter for the Vista (32-bit) operating system. The Avivo Video Converter is a tool that provides a quick and easy way of converting videos from one format to another. The Avivo Video Converter found within the Catalyst™ Control Center accepts a wide variety of file formats as a source, and outputs to file formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4/DivX, WMA, H.264/AVC and more.

Performance Improvements

Opera today released Speed Dial, the fastest and easiest way to access your favorite sites. Speed Dial allows you to transform your top nine sites into visual favorites that are immediately available in any new tab. Speed Dial is available in Opera 9.2, a completely free download from www.opera.com.

LAVAL, CANADA (April 5, 2007) - Lavalys today announced the general availability of version 4.00 of its EVEREST family of products which include the widely used PC diagnostic and benchmarking tool EVEREST Ultimate Edition and the increasingly popular IT asset management solution EVEREST Corporate Edition. This release brings powerful new features as well as several improvements and bug fixes in direct response to customer feedbacks.

Some of these new features and enhancements include:

• Support for the IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) specification provides system administrators with an additional server management and health monitoring option. Corporate users can utilize the new IPMI features to monitor security and stability of their servers and more.
• Support for the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) open standard unleashes Operating System-managed configuration and advanced Power Management on compliant computers.
• Revamped Hardware Monitoring module adds over 70 new monitored values including Memory Clock, CPU Multiplier, CPU FSB and GPU Memory Clock. Revamped System Stability Test module adds hardware failure checking by stressing the computer even more than preceding EVEREST versions. Revamped Disk Benchmark module adds Buffered Write test to measure the interface bandwidth for optical, hard disk and flash drives for both read and write operations.
• Extended OpenGL information (video adapters, extensions, texture sizes, Vertex Program & Fragment Program capabilities, and more) combined with support for all the latest technologies from nVIDIA -- including GeForce 8800 GTS/GTX video cards, nForce 650i and 680i motherboard chipsets -- takes EVEREST’s already comprehensive graphics hardware related capabilities even further.
• Enhanced support for Windows Vista including transparent integration of EVEREST hardware monitoring module to Windows Sidebar, which makes hardware monitoring more convenient by having real-time measurements such as temperatures, voltages and fan speeds readily available.
• Support for the AMD Quad FX (4x4) Platform which is powered by pairs of the AMD Athlon 64 FX-70 series dual-core processors.

Die INF-Datei des Treibers beinhaltet erstmals auch Einträge für NVIDIAs im April zu erwartende Einsteiger- und Mittelklasse-Modelle auf Basis der GeForce 8 Serie. Das Einsteiger-Segment bedienen dabei offenbar die auf dem G86 basierenden GeForce 8300 GS, 8400 GS und 8500 GT. In der Mittelklasse wird man die auf dem G84 basierenden GeForce 8600 GT und 8600 GTS Modelle antreffen. Neben den derzeitigen Highend-Varianten 8800 GTS und 8800 GTX weist der Treiber ebenfalls auf ein neues G80-Modell hin, die GeForce 8800 Ultra. Wo sich die GeForce 8800 Ultra gegenüber der GTS und GTX leistungsmäßig einordnen wird, lässt sich derzeit allerdings nicht sagen.
