Samsung Completes Qualification of its 2nd Generation 10nm Process Technology

Sam짯sung Elec짯tro짯nics, a world lea짯der in advan짯ced semi짯con짯duc짯tor tech짯no짯lo짯gy, announ짯ced today that its second gene짯ra짯ti짯on 10-nano짯me짯ter (nm) Fin짯FET pro짯cess tech짯no짯lo짯gy, 10LPP (Low Power Plus), has been qua짯li짯fied and is rea짯dy for pro짯duc짯tion. With fur짯ther enhance짯ment in 3D Fin짯FET struc짯tu짯re, 10LPP allows up to 10-per짯cent hig짯her per짯for짯mance or 15-per짯cent lower power con짯sump짯ti짯on com짯pared to the first gene짯ra짯ti짯on 10LPE (Low-Power Ear짯ly)  pro짯cess with the same area scaling.

Sam짯sung was the first in the indus짯try to begin mass pro짯duc짯tion of sys짯tem-on-chips (SoCs) pro짯ducts on 10LPE last Octo짯ber. The latest Sam짯sung Gala짯xy S8 smart짯phones are powered by some of the짯se SoCs.

To meet long-term demand for the 10nm pro짯cess for a wide ran짯ge of cus짯to짯mers, Sam짯sung has star짯ted instal짯ling pro짯duc짯tion equip짯ment at its newest S3-line in Hwa짯se짯ong, Korea. The S3-line is expec짯ted to be rea짯dy for pro짯duc짯tion by the fourth quar짯ter of this year.

With our suc짯cessful 10LPE pro짯duc짯tion expe짯ri짯ence, we have com짯men짯ced pro짯duc짯tion of the 10LPP to main짯tain our lea짯der짯ship in the advan짯ced-node foundry mar짯ket, said Ryan Lee, Vice Pre짯si짯dent of Foundry Mar짯ke짯ting at Sam짯sung Elec짯tro짯nics. 10LPP will be one of our key pro짯cess offe짯rings for high per짯for짯mance mobi짯le, com짯pu짯ting and net짯work appli짯ca짯ti짯ons, and Sam짯sung will con짯ti짯nue to offer the most advan짯ced logic pro짯cess technology.
