Tai­pei, Tai­wan, August 12th 2020 – GIGABYTE Tech­no­lo­gy, (TWSE: 2376), an indus­try lea­der in high-per­for­mance ser­vers and work­sta­tions, today is announ­cing a part­ner­ship with Ger­man based Nor­t­hern Data AG, one of the world’s lar­gest pro­vi­ders of High-Per­for­mance Com­pu­ting (HPC) solu­ti­ons, to deve­lop dis­tri­bu­ted com­pu­ting in Nor­t­hern Data’s data cen­ters. The­se data cen­ters with GIGABYTE built HPC ser­vers will be loca­ted in the Nor­dics and mana­ged by Nor­t­hern Data.

In order to build high per­for­mance data cen­ters for the future, Nor­t­hern Data and GIGABYTE will work hand in hand on HPC sys­tems that are bench­mark­ed against strict cri­te­ria and pur­po­sed for a wide ran­ge of end use cases. GIGABYTE will sup­p­ly all key com­pon­ents and build the sys­tems for Nor­t­hern Data, who will be con­duc­ting per­for­mance tests to ensu­re that the sys­tems meet Nor­t­hern Data’s tech­ni­cal requi­re­ments. Once the sys­tems are deploy­ed at Nor­t­hern Data’s data cen­ters, they will be hand­ling workloads in Vir­tu­al Machi­nes (VM) for AI and 3D appli­ca­ti­ons, among other workloads such as game strea­ming. To bet­ter ful­ly uti­li­ze the data cen­ter ser­vers when com­pu­te demand is on a redu­ced level, such as during off-peak hours, the dis­tri­bu­ted com­pu­ting archi­tec­tu­re will pro­vi­de fle­xi­ble con­text swit­ching, which in turn allo­ca­tes ser­ver resour­ces to block­chain appli­ca­ti­ons. This approach pre­vents the ser­ver sys­tems from sit­ting unde­r­uti­li­zed and enables them to increase return on investment.
