AMD hat mit dem Cata­lyst 15.7 (Ver­si­on: 15.20.1046) einen neu­en WHQL-Trei­ber ver­öf­fent­licht, der nicht nur Unter­stüt­zung für Win­dows 10 bie­tet, son­dern auch eine Rei­he neu­er Fea­tures beinhal­tet. So kön­nen mit dem neu­en Trei­ber auch die Besit­zer älte­rer Rade­on-Gra­fik­kar­ten auf Basis der GCN-Archi­tek­tur (ab Rade­on R7 260) die neu­en Funk­tio­nen Frame Rate Tar­get Con­trol (FRTC) und Vir­tu­al Super Reso­lu­ti­on (VSR) ver­wen­den. Außer­dem sind Per­for­mance­op­ti­mie­run­gen für diver­se Spie­le eingeflossen.

Der FPS-Limi­ter FRTC begrenzt die FPS auf einen im Cata­lyst Con­trol Cen­ter fest­ge­leg­ten Wert und kann dadurch die Leis­tungs­auf­nah­me der Gra­fik­kar­te und des gesam­ten Sys­tems redu­zie­ren. Posi­ti­ve Neben­ef­fek­te davon sind poten­ti­ell gerin­ge­re Sys­tem­tem­pe­ra­tu­ren, lang­sa­mer dre­hen­de Lüf­ter und damit letzt­lich ein lei­se­rer Betrieb. Zusätz­lich wird Down­sam­pling (VSR) auf den „Kaveri”-APUs ab dem Modell A6-7400K unter­stützt, wobei sich Auf­lö­sun­gen von bis zu 2560×1440 Pixel ein­stel­len las­sen. VSR ist eine spe­zi­el­le Ver­si­on von Supers­am­ple-Anti-Ali­a­sing (SSAA, genau­er: Orde­red Grid Supers­am­ple-Anti-Ali­a­sing, oder kurz OGSSAA), die auch in Spie­len funk­tio­niert, wel­che kei­ne Unter­stüt­zung für die übli­che Kan­ten­glät­tung mit­tels Mul­tis­am­ple-Anti-Ali­a­sing (MSAA) bie­ten. Zusätz­lich ver­rin­gert OGSSAA Flim­mern. Mit VSR wird zunächst das Bild in einer Auf­lö­sung ober­halb der nati­ven Auf­lö­sung des ange­schlos­se­nen Dis­plays berech­net und dann her­un­ter­ska­liert. Gegen­über dem Cata­lyst Ome­ga hat AMD außer­dem die­se Funk­ti­on um neue Modi erwei­tert. Zu guter Letzt bie­tet der Cata­lyst 15.7 erst­mals auf Cross­Fi­re-Sys­te­men Unter­stüt­zung für Free­Sync. Eine alle kom­pa­ti­blen Moni­to­re umfas­sen­de Lis­te hat AMD hier zusam­men­ge­stellt.

Die Trei­ber ste­hen für Win­dows 10, 8.1 und 7 zum Down­load bereit. Win­dows 8 wur­de letzt­mals mit dem Cata­lyst 14.4 WHQL offi­zi­ell unter­stützt. Vis­ta-Nut­zer kön­nen den Win­dows-7-Trei­ber eben­falls instal­lie­ren, aller­dings hat uns AMD zu ver­ste­hen gege­ben, dass Micro­softs unge­lieb­ter Spross in der Qua­li­täts­si­che­rung und Ent­wick­lung nur noch eine unter­ge­ord­ne­te Rol­le spielt.

This is a Tech­ni­cal Pre­view dri­ver with full WDDM 2.0 sup­port for Win­dows 10 and DirectX 12 on all Gra­phics Core Next (GCN) sup­port­ed pro­ducts,  AMD Rade­on HD 7000 and newer gra­phics pro­ducts. Offi­ci­al dri­ver sup­port for AMD pro­ducts will be available when Micro­soft laun­ches Win­dows 10 on July 29^th, 2015.

Frame Rate Tar­get Con­trol (FRTC)

FRTC allows the user to set a maxi­mum frame rate when play­ing an appli­ca­ti­on in full screen exclu­si­ve mode. This fea­ture pro­vi­des the fol­lo­wing benefits:

• Redu­ced GPU power consumption
• Redu­ced sys­tem heat
• Lower fan speeds and less noise

This fea­ture is sup­port­ed on appli­ca­ti­ons using  DirectX 10 or hig­her and on the fol­lo­wing AMD gra­phics products:

• ​​AMD Free­Sync and AMD Cross­Fi­re can now be used tog­e­ther in appli­ca­ti­ons using DirectX 10 or hig­her. Plea­se note, this fea­ture is curr­ent­ly not sup­port­ed on sys­tems con­fi­gu­red in AMD Dual Gra­phics mode.
