AMD and Xilinx Stockholders Overwhelmingly Approve AMD’s Acquisition of Xilinx

AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) and Xilinx, Inc (NASDAQ:XLNX) announ­ced today that stock­hol­ders voted to appro­ve their respec­ti­ve pro­po­sals rela­ting to the pen­ding acqui­si­ti­on of Xilinx by AMD. The acqui­si­ti­on will bring tog­e­ther two indus­try lea­ders with com­ple­men­ta­ry pro­duct port­fo­li­os and cus­to­mers, com­bi­ning CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, Adap­ti­ve SoCs and deep soft­ware exper­ti­se to enable lea­der­ship in com­pu­ting plat­forms for cloud, edge and end devices. AMD hat selbst ein White­pa­per ver­öf­fent­licht, aus­ge­rech­net zur Markt­ein­füh­rung der Ser­ver-Ver­si­on von Zen 3 namens Milan, das eine mit Zen 3 neu ein­ge­führ­te Schwach­stel­le beschreibt, die ähn­lich wie Spect­re V4 ein­zu­stu­fen ist. Wir erin­nern uns: Anfang 2018 wur­de eine neue Klas­se an Schwach­stel­len in moder­nen Pro­zes­so­ren bekannt, die deren leis­tungs­stei­gern­de Fea­tures wie Spe­cu­la­ti­ve Exe­cu­ti­on, Branch Pre­dic­tion und Out of Order Exe­cu­ti­on für Sei­ten­ka­nal-Angrif­fe aus­nut­zen. Hinweis auf bald erscheinenden Ryzen Threadripper 5000?

Im HEDT-Bereich (Hig­hend Desk­top) steht AMD momen­tan mehr oder weni­ger kon­kur­renz­los dar, zuletzt gab man noch die im letz­ten Juli vor­ge­stell­ten Ryzen Thre­ad­rip­per PRO Pro­zes­so­ren für den Retail-Bereich frei — auch wenn dafür noch die Main­boards rar sind. Nichts des­to trotz hat­te man bei AMD ver­si­chert, dass auch ein Thre­ad­rip­per auf Basis von Zen 3 kom­men wird und für die­se gibt es nun ers­te Indi­zi­en, die auf einen bevor­ste­hen­den Launch hin­deu­ten könn­ten. Im Mobi­le-Seg­ment wur­den die neu­en APUs auf Basis der Zen-3-Archi­tek­tur wie berich­tet bereits vor eini­gen Wochen ein­ge­führt. Beim Vor­gän­ger Renoir hat­te sich AMD rein auf OEMs beschränkt, lie­fer­te Mobi­le-APUs und Desk­top-APUs nicht in den Retail-Markt.
