AMD Announces $4 Billion Share Repurchase Program

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 19, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announ­ced that its Board of Direc­tors appro­ved a new share repurcha­se pro­gram. Under this pro­gram, the com­pa­ny intends to repurcha­se up to $4 bil­li­on of out­stan­ding AMD com­mon stock. AMD expects to fund repurcha­ses through cash gene­ra­ted from ope­ra­ti­ons which have been streng­the­ned by the company’s strong ope­ra­tio­nal results.

AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) announ­ced that AMD EPYC™ 7003 Series pro­ces­sors will be used to power a new super­com­pu­ter for the Natio­nal Super­com­pu­ting Cent­re (NSCC) Sin­ga­po­re, the natio­nal high-per­for­mance com­pu­ting (HPC) resour­ce cen­ter dedi­ca­ted to sup­port­ing sci­ence and engi­nee­ring com­pu­ting needs.

The sys­tem will be based on the HPE Cray EX super­com­pu­ter and will use a com­bi­na­ti­on of the EPYC 7763 and EPYC 75F3 pro­ces­sors. The super­com­pu­ter is plan­ned to be ful­ly ope­ra­tio­nal by 2022 and is expec­ted to have a peak theo­re­ti­cal per­for­mance of 10 peta­FLOPS, 8x fas­ter than NSCC’s exis­ting pool of HPC resour­ces. Atos today announ­ces that Bulgaria’s new EuroHPC super­com­pu­ter, which is based on Atos’ powerful Bull­Se­qua­na XH2000 archi­tec­tu­re, is now ful­ly deli­ver­ed and assem­bled at Sofia Tech Park in Bul­ga­ria. Atos was sel­ec­ted to build Bulgaria’s petas­ca­le super­com­pu­ter by the Euro­pean High Per­for­mance Com­pu­ting Joint Under­ta­king (EuroHPC JU), the hos­ting enti­ty, and the con­sor­ti­um “Petas­ca­le Super­com­pu­ter Bul­ga­ria” (PetaSC-Bul­ga­ria) who­se lea­ding part­ner is Sofia Tech Park.

This will be the most powerful super­com­pu­ter in Eas­tern Euro­pe and will help to levera­ge Bulgaria’s high-tech ambi­ti­ons. Bereits in der letz­ten Woche sind über CRN die Zah­len der Markt­an­tei­le bei CPUs von Mer­cu­ry Rese­arch für das ers­te Quar­tal 2021 ver­öf­fent­lich wor­den. Dabei zeigt sich, dass AMD im Bereich Desk­top und Lap­top mit der Kapa­zi­täts­be­schrän­kung bei TSMC zu kämp­fen hat. Wohl auch weil Intel den Markt mit vie­len güns­ti­gen Pro­zes­so­ren in die­sen Markt­seg­men­ten bedie­nen konn­te, san­ken dort jeweils die Markt­an­tei­le. Im ers­ten Quar­tal 2021 hat AMD einen Umsatz von 3,45 Mil­li­ar­den US-Dol­lar erzielt und dabei einen Net­to­ge­winn von 555 Mil­lio­nen US-Dol­lar erwirt­schaf­tet. Der Gewinn pro Aktie lag bei 0,45 US-Dol­lar. Erwar­tet hat­te AMD einen Umsatz von 3,2 Mil­li­ar­den US-Dol­lar (+/-  100 Millionen),

Gegen­über dem Vor­jah­res­quar­tal stieg der Umsatz um 93 Pro­zent, im Ver­gleich zum vor­her­ge­hen­den Quar­tal betrug der Anstieg 6 Pro­zent. Die Brut­to­mar­ge lag bei 46 Pro­zent.
